Faustina II; Rome, As, 10.73g. Obv: FAUSTINAAVGVSTA Bust draped r. Rx: SC across field, Diana standing l., holding arrow in r. hand before her and with bow resting on ground behind her. Ex Curtis L. Clay Collection; acquired from Zausche, April 2002. Apparently an unpublished mule, not in Strack or BMC. The Diana reverse type without Faustinas filiation was meant to be coupled with a PII AVG FIL obverse die, as on BM-2191. The FAVSTINA AVGVSTA obverse type, in contrast, was in most cases meant to go with an AVGVSTI PII FIL reverse type, as on BMC-pp. 383-4. As long as Antoninus Pius was alive, most of the coins he struck for his daughter Faustina II naturally called her, on either obverse or reverse, Daughter of the Pious Augustus.. VF
